MokoPaste Privacy Policy

This policy explains how MokoPaste handles information related to app operation, license activation, purchase recovery, and user settings across App Store distribution, website distribution, and related web pages.

Last updated: July 12, 2026

1. Scope

This policy applies to the MokoPaste macOS app, the official website, and supporting services related to license activation and purchase recovery. If functionality differs by distribution channel, actual behavior and channel-specific page descriptions prevail.

2. Types of Information We May Process

To provide our services, we process certain operational data on your local device. This local data does not leave your device by default:

  • Clipboard content (stored and processed locally on your device or in your personal private iCloud container if explicitly enabled): including text, links, rich text, images, file references, and related metadata.
Important Notice: iCloud Sync (exclusive to Pro users) is disabled by default. Only after you enable it in Settings does MokoPaste use Apple CloudKit to store plain text, URLs, custom tags, favorite states, history-limit settings, deletion states, and technical metadata required for synchronization in the iCloud Private Database associated with your Apple ID. Synced data does not pass through MokoPaste-operated servers, and the developer does not read or process synced content through the product service. Images, rich-text bodies, file contents, OCR image data, and local file paths are not uploaded or synced.
  • Source app information (evaluated locally in memory for ignore rules only, with no network transmission): such as active app name or bundle identifier.
  • Local preferences such as shortcuts, launch at startup, language, history capacity, favorites, tags, and ignored app lists.
  • Local file access tokens (saved within your local sandbox environment only): including file paths and security-scoped bookmarks to restore file access.
  • License data including license key, device instance identifier/name, activation status, activation count, and timestamps.
  • Purchase recovery data such as checkout request IDs, order-related IDs, and returned purchase status.
  • Website checkout-related data handled by payment/license providers, such as email, order ID, product ID, and license key.

3. How We Use Information

  • Provide clipboard history, search, favorites, tags, source-app filtering, and paste-back workflows.
  • Persist local history and settings on your device for continuous usage.
  • Honor app ignore rules to reduce accidental capture of sensitive content.
  • Validate, activate, and deactivate licenses, and support latest-purchase recovery after website checkout.
  • Protect service reliability, troubleshoot issues, and prevent license abuse or repeated fraudulent activation.

4. Local Processing and Device Permissions

Core MokoPaste capabilities are primarily local. Clipboard history, search, image preview, and OCR extraction are processed on your device by default and are not uploaded to our servers solely for core functionality.

To support clipboard monitoring, shortcut launch, file paste-back, and auto paste, the app may request system permissions, sandbox file access abilities, or Accessibility permissions. These are used for feature operation, not for unrelated cloud upload.

5. Network Requests and Third-Party Services

In current versions, network requests are mainly used for Apple CloudKit sync when you enable it, license activation, validation and deactivation, order recovery after website checkout, and the anonymous analytics described below. iCloud Sync requests go directly to Apple CloudKit. Purchase and license requests go to our license service and may involve third-party payment or license providers.

  • If you only use local clipboard features without checkout or activation, core clipboard content is not uploaded for those features.
  • If you enable iCloud Sync, the app sends only the limited data described above to Apple CloudKit for storage in the private database associated with your Apple ID.
  • If you purchase on the website, we or providers may process order IDs, request IDs, email, product IDs, license keys, and purchase status.
  • If you use the App Store channel, payment and entitlement flows are handled by Apple and may differ from website distribution.
  • Current versions include a lightweight analytics SDK (e.g., PostHog) to send limited anonymous events such as app launches, feature usage frequencies, and license diagnostics to help us improve product stability and analyze conversion funnels.
  • We explicitly exclude sensitive data from analytics, including: clipboard contents, raw search text, file paths, and license keys.
  • We do not use in-app ad SDKs or cross-site tracking technologies for advertising purposes.

6. Information Storage

  • Clipboard history, image cache, favorites, tags, and most preferences are stored on your local device by default.
  • After iCloud Sync is enabled, the limited synchronized data is also stored in the CloudKit Private Database associated with your Apple ID.
  • License status is stored in macOS Keychain by default to reduce plaintext exposure risk.
  • Some order and license data needed for website purchase recovery may be stored by license/payment providers for support and license management.

7. Sharing and Disclosure

Except for the cases below, we do not sell your personal information or use clipboard content for ad marketing:

  • We may share necessary information with cloud, payment, or license providers to support activation, checkout, recovery, and support operations.
  • We may disclose necessary information when required by applicable law, regulation, court order, or government request.
  • In mergers, acquisitions, asset transfers, or similar events, relevant data may transfer as part of the transaction under applicable law.

8. Your Choices and Control

  • You can pause clipboard recording or add specific apps to your ignore list in the app.
  • You can clear history, remove favorites, or remove saved licenses in the app.
  • You can disable launch at startup and stop using or uninstall the app at any time.
  • iCloud Sync Control & Data Eradication: You can disable "iCloud Sync" in the settings at any time, which immediately stops uploading new content. When you delete a record or tag, the deletion instruction (tombstone) is uploaded to your private iCloud container. Tombstones are kept on the cloud for at least 30 days and are automatically permanently deleted (garbage collected) once acknowledged by all active devices (synced within the last 90 days). This prevents cloud data from growing indefinitely while ensuring offline devices receive deletion instructions.
  • If you purchased through the website and need privacy support for orders/licenses, contact us via the details below.

9. Children's Privacy

MokoPaste is not designed for children. If you believe a minor has provided information requiring our processing without guardian consent, please contact us and we will take reasonable action after verification.

10. Policy Updates

We may update this policy based on product capabilities, distribution channels, legal requirements, or operations. Updated versions will be published on this page with the latest update date shown here. For material changes, we will provide notice on the website or in-app where appropriate.
